A Little History.

The name Mobile Studio Design comes from a dream of founder Jessica Jolin’s that is over a decade old. While pursuing a Master of Architecture degree in Vermont, proprietor Jolin formed a plan to one day revitalize her beat-up 1976 Airstream into a mobile design/build studio.

Jolin discovered early in her career that a project requires constant attention to be successful. She envisioned walking outside the Airstream on-site to answer any questions with a clarification sketch. Through various jobs in both architecture and construction, Jolin has gained an appreciation for specific efficiencies that keep a project on schedule and a budget on track.

Jolin’s dream became a reality when she left a larger firm to open her own studio in Biddeford, Maine in 2017.

As her studio’s focus shifted to residential design services, relocating the Airstream from place to place was no longer feasible. However, the studio continues to recognize the importance of being accessible to all team members throughout the life of the project. The Airstream is used for studio retreats.

Since its launch, the studio has grown in talent. In late 2017, Cat Sumislaski joined Mobile Studio Design with 14 years of experience as an Architectural Designer. The studio then welcomed Architect Leah Schaffer in the fall of 2019. Ashley Lefebvre joined as Studio Manager and New Client Coordinator in 2020.

In addition to residential projects, the team collaborates on community design projects.
